How It Works

An accumulator (acca) combines multiple selections into one bet. All selections must win for the bet to pay out.

Combined Odds = Odds 1 × Odds 2 × Odds 3 × ... For example, three selections at 2.00, 1.80, and 3.50 give combined odds of 12.60.

Potential Return = Stake × Combined Odds. A €10 stake at 12.60 combined odds returns €126.00 (€116.00 profit).

What Is an Accumulator Bet?

An accumulator (also called a parlay in the US or a multi-bet) is a single wager that combines two or more selections from different matches. The key rule is simple: all selections must win for the bet to pay out. If even one selection loses, the entire accumulator loses.

The appeal is the odds multiplication effect. Three selections at 2.00 each give combined odds of 8.00 — meaning a €10 bet returns €80. But the probability of winning drops significantly with each added selection. Understanding this trade-off is critical.

Types of Accumulators

  • Double: 2 selections. The simplest accumulator with the highest win probability.
  • Treble: 3 selections.
  • 4-fold to 8-fold: Common range for football accas. Each added leg multiplies odds but dramatically reduces win probability.
  • 10-fold+: The "lottery ticket" territory. Massive potential returns, minimal probability of winning.

The Mathematics of Accumulators

Here is why accumulators are harder to win than most people think. If each selection has a 70% chance of winning:

  • Double (2 legs): 70% × 70% = 49% win probability
  • Treble (3 legs): 70%³ = 34.3%
  • 5-fold: 70%⁵ = 16.8%
  • 10-fold: 70%¹⁰ = 2.8%

Even with strong 70% selections, a 10-fold acca wins less than 3% of the time. The bookmaker margin also compounds with each leg, making long accumulators particularly poor value. Read our guide on 5 common accumulator mistakes to avoid the most costly errors.

Tips for Smarter Accumulators

  • Keep it short: 3-5 selections offer the best balance between payout potential and realistic win probability.
  • Mix markets: Do not just back match results. Combine Over/Under goals, BTTS, and handicap markets for diversification.
  • Research every leg: One lazy selection can sink your entire acca. Check form guides and home/away records for every match.
  • Check the implied probability: This calculator shows the combined implied probability. If it is below 5%, understand that you are betting on something very unlikely — treat it as entertainment, not investment.
  • Use data-driven selections: Our daily accumulator tips are built from statistical models, not gut feeling.
